FIRST FALL is an ongoing project which began in 1994.  The idea was to create an acoustic sound with original material written by Nigel Smith - my partner and bass player in Swansong.

First Fall has taken many forms over the last ten years or so from originally being the two of us - Nigel on acoustic guitar and my vocal to a five piece band to include saxophone and drums, or just the two of us with keyboard backing, but nothing worked quite as well as just acoustic guitar and vocal so we took it back to where it originally started.  Of course, over the years, our song list has expanded to include many covers from various genres, but mainly of songs that we both enjoyed performing, so I suppose the project has become a little self indulgent.  Despite this, we now have a substantial repertoire under our belts and are able to perform acoustic sets if and when required.  We have spent many an evening hosting musician nights and performing at private events and for both Nigel and I, First Fall serves as an addendum to our band and my solo work.

Please go to the media page and play the track 'Over Me'. This is the very last demo track and  was written, produced and recorded by Nigel Smith.

Keeping checking my gig listings for latest performance dates.

First Fall was created in 1996 and is an ongoing project.  It all began when Nigel and I met whilst trying to put a band together pre=Blues 'n GraizedFirst Fall was initially all about co-written original material (OVER ME - (Jukebox - Track 14).  Currently, our repertoire consists of songs built around our own musical tastes and which suit our musical style, for example, Alanis, Sheryl Crow, The Eagles, Doobies etc. Personally, I feel that if it works for us, then this feeds back to the audience. We are now in the fortunate position of having a vast amount of songs under our belts which provides us with a versatility to enable us to taylor each performance to the event, as tunes are always on hand - it's that simple, so all the hard work has finally paid off.  We have worked with other musicians, trying to turn the project into a band with saxophone, bass and keys, but this simply didn't work, and we felt that keeping it simple was the best option.  One of the highlights of recent years was supporting Sheffield's own Boy on a Dolphin and Acoustic Angels at the Boardwalk and several other major venues across the region.  We found this enlightening and also gave us a chance to perform to audiences that hadn't heard us before.  You will often find us hosting musician nights, attending folk clubs and smaller venues that require a cosey setting and are often unamplified, hence good for the listener.  We have enjoyed contributing to various charity events in the past, Bluebell Wood being the most prominent, and like to help out where we can.  We are currently working on some new demo tracks - we thought it was about time we had some up to date audio material available to listen to via the Jukebox - so keep checking back.
